June Lake Loop is a scenic route located in Mono County, California. It is a 25 km (15 mile) two-lane road that winds through four beautiful alpine lakes: Grant Lake, Silver Lake, Gull Lake, and June Lake. The route provides breathtaking views of the Eastern Sierra and some of its highest mountains, including those that tower over 2,100 meters (7,000 feet) above sea level.
With opportunities for fishing, boating, hiking, and camping, June Lake Loop is a well-liked destination for tourists looking for outdoor recreation. Despite the possibility of closure during the winter due to severe weather, the route is open all year.
How to get to the road?
About 20 minutes north of Mammoth Lakes, State Route 158 is accessible via Highway 395. You’ll notice signs for it and turn onto it when you get to the gas station (the only one in the area). After that, you’ll be back on Highway 395 south of Lee Vining.

Is June Lake Loop Route open ?
June Lake Loop Route is typically open year-round, but it is always advisable to check with local authorities for the most up-to-date information regarding road conditions and closures. The June Lakes and June Mountain Ski Area are accessible all year, but you won’t be able to drive the circle in the winter. Out and back experiences are available in both directions, ensuring that you have access to all the lakes and the ski resort. During the winter, however, the segment of CA-158 that connects Silver Lake and Grant Lake is closed. On weekends and during the peak holiday season, the route becomes more congested.
The June Lake Loop is a picturesque route worth taking your time to fully enjoy. With its stunning views of alpine lakes and the Eastern Sierra, visitors often spend several hours stopping to capture photos and soak in the natural beauty. To fully experience the area, including swimming or water sports, it’s recommended to set aside at least a full day.
