What should I know about Door County Coastal Byway?
The 106 kilometers (66 miles) Door County Coastal Byway is a two-lane road that gives motorists, tourists, and skilled road bikers a streamlined tour of the Door peninsula and many of its famous natural features.
The drive is even better thanks to the good asphalted road. Nothing beats sliding over twists and turns on a smooth surface while taking in some breathtaking vistas. You may go north of Northport on this byway, then south through Baileys Harbour to Jacksonport. You may then travel to Juddvile and then return to Sturgeon Bay, which is where you started. What is the history of the Door County Coastal Byway?
It was the City of Liberty Grove’s initiative that led to the creation of this road. The project, supported in the summer of 2009 by eight municipalities and Door County, quickly took shape, outlining the main points of the road as well as the breathtaking sites that characterize all these roads. Six months later, the coastal road was officially classified Byways. As the city and Door County worked out the details of the project, other municipalities followed, and by July 2010, nine regional roads had been created that now combine more than 320 kilometers (200 miles) of coastal highways.

How to get to this Coastal road?
You will be able to go on a fun, winding route while exploring all of the peninsula’s coasts if you take this journey. Starting in Sturgeon Bay, the route travels along State Highway 57 until it reaches Gills Rock. Following State Highway 42 back to the starting point, it then continues on to show you the other side of the peninsula.
