History of the road:
The Autova del Noroeste, commonly known as the TF-21 road, was constructed in the 1970s to link the north and west of the Canary Island of Tenerife. It replaced the previously necessary tiny, twisting road that was the sole route linking various regions of the island and was prone to accidents and traffic jams. A significant improvement for the island was the building of the TF-21, which offered a faster and safer transit route.

How get to TF-21 road?
Depending on where you start, there are a number of alternative routes you may take to reach the TF-21 road, commonly known as the Autova del Noroeste. Here are several possibilities:
By traveling north on the TF-1 highway from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island’s capital, you may get to the TF-21 route. In the village of La Laguna, the TF-1 and TF-21 converge.
You may go north on the TF-1 freeway from the south of the island and then turn left onto the TF-21 road at La Laguna.
If you are flying into Tenerife North Airport, you may go to Santa Cruz de Tenerife via the TF-5 highway before turning off at La Laguna onto the TF-21 route.
If you are flying into Tenerife South Airport, you may travel north on the TF-1 highway and then turn left onto the TF-21 road at La Laguna.

Is TF-21 road on the Canary Islands open?
You may appreciate it without having to focus too much on other drivers as the road is typically rather vacant. As we go on, the road will begin to ascend in elevation, and the scenery will once more change. As you continue driving, you will approach the Teleferic, where you will see more cactus plants and red dirt. You could believe that you are in another world. That is what the lava landscape could lead you to believe.
It is ideal to begin the trip when the sun is setting so that you may ascend to a greater height and approach the summit when it is dark. Why is that so?
