Some details about the Tizi n’Ait Imi.
This road is a gravel road build in 2016 on a former donkey pathway in the Beni Mellal Khenifra region of Morocco.
This is a 70 kilometers (44 miles) segment through the mountains. As is it a gravel road, it will take approximately 3 hours to drive this road from Tabant to Alemdoun.
The pass is located at 2900 meters (9515 feet) above the sea level, so it makes this road one of the highest roads in the country.
From the pass, you will have a beautiful view to the north over the Aït Bougmez valley and to the south on the M’Goun Mountains chain.
How to get to the Tizi n’Ait Imi mountain pass?
The pass is quite isolated and it can be hard to find its localization. Before starting your drive be sure to get your itinerary prepared as your GPS navigator may not know the road.
If you are coming from the north (for example from Marrakech) you have to drive the R302 road and take the alternative route to Tabant then drive straight to the mountain (there is only one way).
If you are coming from the south drive the national road number 10 to Kelâat M’Gouna then take the road to Alemdoun where the road you need starts.

Things to do nearby
This region is well known for its treks, in fact, many hikers climb the Tizi n’Ait Imi by feet.
Also, we recommend you to make a stop at the “Coca-Cola” unofficial shop at the summit. It is a very friendly nomad shop near the road.

It can be helpful to have a preview of the journey. Here is a video from Youtube of the drive:
Is the Tizi n’Ait Imi open?
The road is open all year round. However, it can be impracticable in winter because of snow covering the road.
Also, you should drive this road only in a 4×4 car. Indeed a normal car can have some difficulties to pass some places. Be aware that after rains the road can be very tricky because of mud on the road.
This segment is also very isolated and you will cross zero gas station on your way, so be sure to fill up your tank before leaving.
If you are planning a road trip to Morocco and you like high mountain passes, you should definitely consider driving this road. But be also very careful because these roads are always dangerous, there are no guard-rails here or any other security things!
